Brainard Lake Elopement

Steven and I first met back in college while we attended UW-Eau Claire but really became close once I moved to Denver! Funny how friendships work sometimes! When Tanner proposed during Christmas time they they began the wedding planning process. After tossing around different ideas they opted to road trip with their two dogs out of the Twin Cities to the Rocky Mountains. I was so honored to help them plan and execute their big day and have a beautiful elopement.

One thing I always like to consider, particularly with people who are out of state and with pets is the altitude. It’s really no joke and the last thing anyone wants on their wedding day is altitude sickness. We knew we wanted somewhere accessible for their pups with easy access to trails and stunning views. I had been to Brainard Lake many times before and knew it would be perfect for them!

We opted to arrive at 2pm so we had plenty of day light to explore, take photos and for their vow exchange. Their dogs Hazel and Navey wore adorable custom floral collars from Plum Sage Flowers to match their dads boutonnieres. We walked around the lake to enjoy the scenery together and came back at sunset for the perfect location for a vow exchange. As the sunset we were greeted (at a safe distance) by moose who, although uninvited, were the most polite wedding crashers! As we wrapped up the day we headed back to Denver for cake and for them to enjoy their first night together as a married couple.

Things to note:

It’s important to note that depending on what time of year you are going, Brainard Lake does have a ticket reservation system. The service in Ward isn’t the best so it’s advised to bring a printed or copy of your ticket so they can scan it.
