Incorporating Your Dog Into Your Wedding Day

If you’re anything like me, your dog is your best friend, your sidekick, and an essential

part of your life! Here in Colorado, we’re big dog people so it seems only natural to want

them incorporated into your wedding day. Here are a few things to think about when

you’re in the planning process to make sure they can be!

Select a Dog-Friendly Wedding Venue:

Pick a venue that fits not only your budget and aesthetic but is dog friendly! Be sure to

double check the venue's pet policy to see if there are any restrictions on having them

there.

Incorporate Them Into Your Timeline:

Do you want your dogs there for the whole day? Just for the first look photos? or at the

ceremony as well? Be sure to work with your photographer and wedding planner so their coming and going and special photos with them can be incorporated into the timeline.

Hire a Dog Assistant:

Having someone there that you know and trust to help with your dogs is so important to

keeping your mind at ease. You will need someone to hold their leashes in between

photos and make sure they have enough food, treats and water. Knowing that you have someone who can take them back to your hotel or house when they're tired or overstimulated will help ensure your day goes smoothly.

Practice Makes Perfect:

Your dog may be just as excited as you on your wedding day so you will want to make

sure to prepare them as much as possible. Familiarize your dog with walking on or off

leash in front of groups of people, especially if they are a bit anti-social. Don’t forget to incorporate any of the cute

accessories they may be wearing on the big day into your practice sessions. Things like floral dog collars or bow ties may come across so cute in photos and the day of but may be uncomfortable to them without practicing with them first.
